The fighters seemed to be having a conversation, this afternoon in Bi’lin, a West Bank town affected by the “security fence”, as Israel’s government names it, or “apartheid wall”, as the Arabs and many Israelis call it.
The Israeli soldiers yelled something ending in “Yalla!” (c’mon!), before shooting their tear-gas canisters. The Palestinians replied with something ending in “yalla! yalla!”, and threw their stones.
“At least they’re talking”, I thought.
This went on until a Palestinian cried in English: “Does anyone know what the heck they are saying?”
